Stand by 20% function in luminaires with motion sensor
Modern lighting devices used in utility rooms, process lines, or sanitary facilities use microwave technology to turn on lamps when motion is detected. However, simply activating the devices is no longer sufficient.
Following the need to save electricity, but also the comfort of users, a new LED line® LUNAR MV lamp was introduced, which, using a microwave motion sensor, allows precise lamp operation settings to ensure user comfort.
Thanks to the “Stand by20%” function, the functionality of the luminaire has been increased. The lamp, after a period of standard operation at 100% of the total light output, smoothly enters the standby and ready state. This state dims the light to 20% and thus reduces electricity consumption by up to 20%. The standby function “Stand by 20%” remains active all the time, and the light remains dimmed until it is completely switched off or brightened again to 100% power when motion is detected. The time of this state can be freely set from 0s to infinity. Thanks to this function, when you return to the room you will not be blinded by a sudden flash of light, but also when leaving the room and not being in the area of the motion sensor the light will not suddenly go out, but will dim leaving a gentle twilight and reducing energy consumption.
An incredible advantage of this solution is the smooth operation of the lamp. Each change of intensity level is made slowly improving the comfort of the user. This is a very useful function in public toilets or staircases – when we stop motionless for a moment, the light does not go out completely, but dims, which helps us to complete the necessary activities or freely wait for the door to open without having to wave our hands towards the sensor, which often happens with poorly positioned lamps. In the example given, you can clearly see that the “Stand by 20%” function is extremely necessary.
