HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO ADEQUATELY PLAN YOUR LIGHTING AT PRODUCTION HALLS AND WAREHOUSES?
How important is it to adequately plan your lighting at production halls and warehouses?
Proper lighting design in industrial buildings is a real challenge due to the specific nature of this type of lighting. We must meet both, the legal requirements for lighting standards and the investor’s needs. The characteristics of each room are different and each project should be approached individually. It should be noted that industrial luminaires should meet high requirements, because they will often work in difficult and unusual conditions.
When planning the selection and arrangement of luminaires in a particular project, we need to know the exact dimensions and “intended purpose” of the building, the arrangement/location of shelves and machines, as well as the location of windows or skylights. We should also analyse the environmental conditions that will prevail in the rooms. Knowing all the necessary details, we can propose not only appropriate lighting fixtures, but also appropriate control systems, which will significantly affect electricity savings.
One of the most important parameters that we have to achieve in the illuminated room is the light intensity. This is a parameter that determines the amount of light falling on a given surface. A very important parameter is also the uniformity of light on the measured surface. Often this parameter is omitted, although it is specified in the lighting standards. In order to meet both of these parameters it will often be better choice to install luminaires of lower light output, but in more quantity. This will give us a better uniformity of light, while at the same time providing the correct illumination.
We just need to remember about the right choice of power and the angle of light distribution to the place where the luminaire will be installed. As the height of the hall increases, we can use luminaires with a smaller light distribution angle. If, in a low building, we assemble luminaires with a narrow light distribution, we obtain a very low uniformity on the working surface with alternately visible light and dark areas.
It is worth thinking about exposing the interiors to daylight as much as possible already at the design stage, which fits perfectly into the HCL trend. This will also create financial savings.
Storage areas should be illuminated evenly throughout the room. We can use both linear and HIGH BAY lamps. Linear lamps will also be perfect for lighting passageways, workshops, production halls or warehouses. Our LED line® RANGER luminaires use a multi-power system, changing the power, but also creating changes in colour temperature.
Another important parameter that will be helpful in proper lighting design is the angle of light. HIGH BAY luminaires are offered in different powers and light distribution angles. Due to their versatility, they can be used to illuminate passageways between warehouse racks as well as on production halls or in large-area warehouses.
In case when we cannot install the lamps under the ceiling you can use industrial floodlights mounted on the walls. The floodlights are designed to be mounted in many positions so we can use them in almost any place. The floodlights are also great for lighting outdoor storage areas. Apart from resistance to weather conditions, they are resistant to mechanical damage. The ideal example is the LED line® PROJECT floodlight, which has been additionally equipped with a unique system to vent the interior of the floodlight, thanks to which we get rid of the effect of condensation of water vapour, which significantly affects the life of the entire lamp.
In addition to the above mentioned parameters, which must be absolutely met when designing the lighting, we must also remember about such parameters as UGR glare factor, colour rendering index CRI, which must be adapted to the environment in accordance with the lighting standard of workplaces.
